Eukaryotic Cell Analogy Project
My first worksample is my Eukaryotic Cell Analogy Project which was assigned to me by Ms.Wilson, my biology teacher. This assignment required us to make our own analogy model of a eukaryotic cell out of whatever we liked such as drawing a picture, making a physical or digital 3d model, multimedia project and more. We also had to make sure our analogy mirrored the actions and jobs that occur in the eukaryotic cell. I compared an animal cell to a public zoo. I made sure that my written analogy was clear and understandable as well as accurate. Then on my 3-D model I made sure that the colors were vibrant and every item and organelle was noticeable as well as the labels. I also wanted to be creative and made the 3-d model resemble a eukaryotic cell but when split open one side was the public zoo and the other side was the animal cell.
I chose this assignment as my first work sample because I put a lot of effort into it as well as time and care. It was also very fun and definitely made me think, because I had to make sure the analogy was clear on the information and well done. It was also one of the first projects I was assigned in the beginning of the quarter.
During this assignment I used the 21st century skill thinking and problem solving. I had to figure out an accurate analogy for my cell which was difficult in the beginning. My problem was when I thought I had a well planned out analogy there were always a couple organelles that I couldn't match up to something in my analogy. I thought of many different things I could compare the eukaryotic cell to when I finally decided on a public zoo. I used my thinking and problem solving 21st century skill to think about a solution and fix my analogy problem.
Once I figured out what I wanted my analogy project to reflect I didn't have much time left to make the actual 3-D model I had planned. This project challenged me to stay committed to my goal and try to finish my model in one sitting while still putting in detail and not lacking in quality. This showed my ability to continue on and work hard til the very end even after I got through all the bumps/steps to accomplish my goal.
Although I did complete my eukaryotic cell analogy and received an 100% as my grade I do think I could have procrastinated a bit less and focused more on figuring out my analogy rather than letting it come to my mind while doing other things. As a result I wasn't able to work on the model as much as I wished.
