HARF Collaboration - Education Video
In my community engagement class we were given the chance to collaborate with local non-profit organization Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation (HARF). Two speakers came and visited us to talk about the organization, the goals they have, and what they need help with. They brought in a service dog and other dog named Stewie missing his two front legs. The class was divided into 3 groups, one group would focus on building Stewie a cart so he could move round more efficiently , the second group would focus on helping HARF with social media and finding ways to reach the public, and the last group made educational videos for the community. My group chose to make a video for the elementary students about how to read a dog's body language. Young children tend to ignore how an animal feels and just approach them, this video is to help them interact with dogs safely. The 21st century skill I used for this project was my communication skill, with this skill I found a way to properly speak and reach a younger audience so that they could be entertained but also be able to understand what we were trying to teach them. We had some difficulties working with the dog we used in our video but luckily everything turned out fine and I was proud with the final video. If I could do this project again I would prepare a bit more material for the video to make it even more intriguing! This relates to past projects where I had to teach or present something through a form of media and this relates to future projects I may have or when I have to present something for my job.
