Laser Cutter
After our CAD - Floor Plan Creator assignment to design Zone 1 for our school we began working on what type of projects we would like to work on in the workshop. Some ideas were jewlery, electronics, printing, wood work, etc. Along with all those areas, our school was planning to have an area dedicated to any laser cutting that needed to be done for projects. I worked with Ethan Sim and Enzo Queirolo to build the machine during our engineering and fabrication class. We finished building the laser cutter in less than three class periods. They worked on attaching the loose parts and screwing them together while I worked on the electricity.
What I'm most proud of this assignment was that I was able to contribute my knowledge to the group by connecting the fork crimp connectors under the screws, as the boys were having a hard time trying to figure out how to do that. I've worked with my dad on a few projects and since he is an electrician we’ve worked on many similar projects, it was fun to use my skills.

The 21st century skill I used was my thinking and problem solving skill. My classmates and I went through a few bumpy patches. We would sometimes get stuck on what was next or how we were supposed to attach the parts together. Through this project I exercised that skill and was able to successfully build the laser cutter. If I could do this project again I would have helped Ethan and Enzo with the actual assembly of the machine. I felt that I was only really able to help with connecting the wires. It would have been nice If I had talked to them a bit more and had them teach me how they did their part. I hope to apply the experience and skills I built working with my peers and with this new technology in the future when trouble shooting or building another tool/machine from scratch. Overall I had a great time and I'm glad I was able to build the laser cutter for my class.
