CAD - Floor Plan Creator
One of our first assignments in Engineering and Fabrication 1 was working with a simple CAD software called Floor Plan Creator. This website allowed us to build floor plans for buildings. For example one of our first projects using this software was to build a small home completing all the requirements such as having a living room, kitchen, closet, garage, etc. The second project was to build a medium sized two story hotel with at least 5 rooms with their own kitchen, bedroom, and living room. The first floor would be the lobby and the second floor would be the living areas.

Last, with the experience we had built using the software for the two other projects we were assigned to design Zone 1 and how we would like it to be organized. Zone 1 is a newly built part of the school dedicated to engineering, a wood and metal workshop, fabrication lab, and a computer room. We had to place a blueprint under so we could have accurate dimensions and add in all the windows, doors, and walls that were already there. This was so that we didn't place work tables in areas that would create traffic in the building.
While working with Floor Plan Creator I used my civic literacy and engagement skill to help create an exciting and safe place for my class community. I informed myself about my classmates needs and what could work best for us. I also went downstairs to look at the building in person to get a better understanding of the area. |
What I am most proud of is the 2nd project which was the hotel. In this project we had the most creative freedom. Originally the requirement was 6 rooms but I asked my teacher Mr. Hazlet if I could make it more my own and create only five rooms. I designed 2 master suites and 3 smaller rooms. Four of the rooms had a large balcony with a jacuzzi.

Something I struggled with was moving the right walls. I would sometimes pull the wrong wall and have to place it back in the right place or fix the furniture that got rearranged. If I could do this assignment again I would experiment more with the other tools that this website offered. I think I was too focused on completing the assignment that I didn't get to use all the different features. This project reflects my past knowledge of using other CAD softwares last year. I can apply what I learned to future assignments that involve other CAD softwares and/or architecture and design based projects.
